NAFA Fun Day

Last Friday all NAFA students just had their fun day! The weather was so nice and of course very hot, but I still enjoyed all the activities there. My first fun day here was absolutely fun! Here's the highlights of the fun day.

1. Foundation Flag

The design is very cool and nicer than other department flag *LOL. With yellow color as the background, it suit the sunny beach perfectly. The logo also very simple yet nice so the flag not too many detail and can focus on the logo only.

2. Talent Show

Wow you can look the crow at the pavilion. They are all watching the talent show which I think it is the most attractive one. Many NAFA students were participating in this talent show, and showcasing their hidden talent. The talent consist of singing, band and dancing, and that were all amazing! We are all indeed art student, right? HAHA

3. The Beach

As we go to Siloso Beach, we should talk about the beach of course, The beach is beautiful and also very soothing. It is quite clean also. I went to small island across, and the place is very comfortable. I sat there about 1 hour because it is not really hot, and we can directly see the sea and the wind is very relaxing.

4. Foundation Power

After finish all the race, at the end of the event, the emcee finally announced the general winner. And, it belongs to... FOUNDATION!! the first time we participated in the event, and we directly become the champion HAHA. It is all because the energy and great participation from the foundation students. So proud!

Force Connection

This week we learned about force connection. Force connection is combining two unrelated things into one and form and creative artworks. Here are the examples of force connection!

1. Wheel chair

Wheel chair is the combination of chair and wheel and the result now are very useful for people, especially in medical fields.

 2. Pen - Smartphone

Pen Smartphone

This type of smartphone is combining pen with phone. People in the pas may not imagine how to write using a pen into their phone. But now, it is possible to do that.

3. Umbrella Hat

Umbrella Hat

Many people might already see this everywhere, and yes, this is the combination of hat and umbrella. I think this is quite useful as people no need to bring their umbrella with hand, but they can directly put it in their head, so that it will more effective and easier to use.

 4. Project Ara

People think that smartphone is the most outstanding and modern type of phone? The answer is not now. Introducing Project Ara, this is the combination of smartphone and lego. Such an contrasting object and impossible to make, but actually it already invented. So we can arranged our phone icons like lego, but the function still the same as the phone.

5. Camera Glasses

Camera Glasses

In the past, it is only a fiction in detective stories or movies when the glasses can take pictures. Now, it is finally happening as the glasses can be combined with camera, and we are able to take pictures just with glasses, and we don't need to bring camera again.

Reflection - Linking Disparate Ideas and Building Musical Sculptures Out of Trash

Felix Thom, a talented sound builder, did something out of the box yet the result is very amazing. He connected two unrelated aspects, music and computer program into one. You must be curious what it is look like and how it is going to be. He use the unused instruments and rebuild it again by adding some machines and properties that connected to wire and computer. Then later on, he can control or play the instruments automatically using the computer. Brilliant!

What I reflected from is that you can be think freely and no need to be burdened by the rules. Like what he did, we connected music with computer program, and he make something that sound really beautiful and outstanding. Connecting two things that are not similar or even not related in new ways, is actually a training to produce or think creatively. Besides, he also use old fashioned or unused instruments, and we can learn that unused or rotten things are still can be useful if we are creative enough to make a way of using it. Just remember, the key point is do and think out of the box and creatively, and we may get unbelievable yet amazing result.

Reflection - Shawn Achor: The Happy Secret to Better Work

Shawn Achor gives his opnion and point of view about what true happiness is. A lot of people think that the successful they are, the happier they will be. They will set new goal and after reach it, more goals will be set. If we think about it, when will we be happy if we always set new goals and never appreciate what we have. Shawn told us to reverse and change our mindset about that wrong thesis. We should not do a better work to gain happiness, but in the other hand, we should be happy in order to do a better work. 

In my opinion, what he say was right, as if we are happy and enjoy enough to do something, then the result will be so much better. So, what I reflect is I should be happy and appreciate what I have now and enjoy whatever I take or do, in order to have amazing result.

Android Updates.

in past view years, google's android have made an awesome improvement in their system, user interface, and also in their logo. Yep, logo is one of the main important thing for me in the operating system life. not just android, apple mac os also made some improvement in their OS, but well, for me apple didn't make that much change in their logo.

The future

maybe we think we still live in the old world, nothing new, nothing special. but, if you look closely, and read the news more closely, you can see a lot of new tech that people think won't exist but amazingly exist now. this is some of them:

Dazzling Cafe

Located in CAPITOL, City Hall, the cafe is quite famous as a lot of people queuing to eat there. I was also queuing, even when the cafe was still closed in the morning. When we got in, the decorations were really awesome and also eye-catching.

1, The Seats

The furnitures or seating here are using Alice tea party theme, where you can see from the picture the chair has bunny ears on it. This is really creative as it combines two things, bunny and chair into one and the result is very cute!

2. The Decorations

One of the most eye-catching decoration is this little merry go round near the entrance. It is really a rare thing for a cafe to have this kind of decorations, but I think it is really a good job as this decoration can enhance the fairytale like or alice tea party theme of the cafe.

3. The Eating Stuffs

As you can see from the coffee cup, it is really creative yet beautiful as you can put the cup together with the cookies. Unlike when the old times, the coffee cup and also cookies were put separately and it takes more space. This coffee up also use a lot of curves like in the plate or hand rail so that it increase the aesthetic value.

4. The Food

Well, as it is a creative thinking blog, I will not comment the taste LOL. The decoration of the food is really good, as the bread are piled up and on the top of it there is the whipped cream. Very good looking and nice food setting that it looks good in the photo, LOL. 

After I went there, I learned that the design and creative field is improving a lot, as there are more creative design cafes or restaurants opened. The more uncommon design or things inside there, people will more interested on it.

Must Watch Cartoon / Animation of 2015

As I am from animation and illustration courses, well I will talk about cartoon or animation of 2015.
These cartoons may have connection to the analogical thinking, because all of them actually non-human characters that live 'like' human; they talk, eat, sleep, socialize, and others. So, I will explain further!

1. We Bare Bears

The newest cartoon in Cartoon Network, it has already stolen many attention of viewers with all ages. The animation and drawing is simple yet really nice, and I think the cartoonist depict each characters really well. Besides, funny story line really help them to get their fame. Telling story between three bears, they try to live and blend together with human lifestyle and live like human. 

2. Minions

With a very clear and cute animation drawing, this animation movie can be nominated as the best one with their hilarious story line. Minion is an fictional character or species that had lived for thousands of years, and they can communicate, wear clothes, and catch villain just like human. So that's why it can be connected to analogical thinking. 

3. Inside Out

This animation is very famous this year and catch many hearts of youngsters. I personally like the character drawing, as it is suits their feeling or actually their character well. Besides, this is a uncommon story as it tells about the life of human's feeling. Once again, they communicate and act 'like' how human do. LOL.

4. Hotel Transylvania 2

This movie is the most hilarious animation that I've ever seen this year, and the story from the start until the end is really entertaining. Everything is perfect, the character, animation, setting, even story line is very good. It tells about all monster character we know like vampire, Frankenstein, mummies, wolverine, etc live in harmony with human and even start to live in human way.

5. Peanuts

Well, this movie is still 'coming soon'. From the trailer, I can say this movie also will be hilarious like the other. Actually, 'Peanuts' or people may know as 'Snoopy (the dog)' is a legendary cartoon that already famous from the generation above us ( I mean our parents may know this LOL), and because of that, I really admire this cartoon and wait for the movie. Well, the movie also telling about animal which is 'Snoopy' is acting, thinking, or even talking 'like' human.

What I can get from those well known cartoon or animation is that to make a good animation, we cannot just think about the drawing for the characters itself or only the story line, but we should balance it together in order to make a great movie. Besides, the more creative and 'out of the box' the story line, the more famous the cartoon will be. Like all those 5, they are all very creative as they use animal, monsters, or may newly invented characters to make story about them and adjust it towards the human lifestyle, so that people can understand and interested in it better.

Random Pick - Sentosa

When I walked around to Sentosa before, I found this two photos that I think it is very interesting.

1. The Entrance

Well, it is very suitable with the beach vibes around there as it used tree roots and formed into and entrance. Very creative as it can be formed beautifully and look like fort.

2. The Resting Seat

Opposite to that cafe entrance, I saw this seats and directly took picture of it as it is really creative. Forming like waves and curves, the shape of the seat is really unconventional yet interesting.

Bingsoo Cafe

My friend invite me to eat 'bingsoo' (kind of korean dessert) nearby the school. When I got there,  really interested with the design and I think this place is really exceptional. Here's some of the pictures.

1. The Cafe

As you can see the cafe is using the box that you can usually se it in the harbor. They put it together as floors and this is really creative stuffs. This is one of the recycle example, that we can use not useful things to something.

2. The Seats

There are outdoor seats also. Resemble to the cafe, it also use recycle thing like the oil tubes, as the table. Even the chairs are not fancy or new-looking one, but those combination gives retro vibes and this is really interesting.

What I get from this cafe is that even things that are not useful can be explored to become more attractive and creative artworks.
